As soon as I spotted the dog, I knew I had to talk to the owner. He (the dog) was thick set, in a cuddly way, with lovely ruffles of light brown on his chest to contrast with the overall coal black colour. If I was to make comparison with a better known dog, I would probably say that he was similar to a St. Bernard but with a mainly dark coat and brown flashes.
The lady owner was very friendly and I quickly learned that he was called Humphrey which I thought really suited him. Humphrey was friendly too and really enjoyed leaning against me and wanting to be patted.
I asked if looking after his coat was a problem. Humphrey’s owner grimaced and said he really moulted, sometimes. He was due for a wash, hair cut and brush up the next week at the local dog care centre which would help.
Humphrey was very thick set but bernese mountain dogs also come in a less thick set variety depending on the focus of the breeder.
If I was to have a dog, I think that the bernese mountain dog would be high on my wish list. They really are beautiful dogs.
Bye for now
